Gravity

Animals in aerial positions.

Zero Gravity is an ongoing series, depicting animals floating, falling, frozen in the air, as if escaping gravity for a second.

I have great freedom of drawing and possible paths when I draw these kinds of positions, just like the sleeping poses. It’s a moment when the whole body relaxes, or contorts, or softens, or tenses, forced by gravity. Each drawing is a snapshot of these moments.

My cat was mostly the inspiration for cat series. For the mandarin ducks, I discovered the fall of their departure in life (or in death for that matter…) during a report and I was bluffed.

The themes are free, I hope you like them.

Chromacats

29 x 34 x 0.1 cm
5 pieces

Watercolor on
300g. Hahnemühle paper

A series dear to my heart, as it was directly inspired by my cat’s naps, jumps and play poses. Acid colors in personal tones. I like to work with long gradations and clean edges in watercolor. A series dedicated to my now gone cat Lilou.

Mandarin Duck Fall

28,5 x 100 cm

Ink on Cardboard

A vertical board with several poses of mandarin ducks, a species whose fatality of life was revealed to me in a news report.

Basically, barely covered in feathers, the young have to jump out of the nest on purpose and throw themselves into the void to land alive or not… The mother waiting below.

Brushed brush and ink poses with small gestures, revealing the form as it goes along.

Mandarin Duck

13.5 x 19 x 0.1 cm

18.5 x 14.5 x 0.1 cm

16.5 x 16 x 0.1 cm

Watercolor on
300g. Hahnemühle paper

A triptych of Mandarin ducks, executed in a minimum of strokes. Saving brushstrokes and abstracting form is a pleasant challenge, and one that’s carried out a lot during the reflection before the movement. The tones are personal, in a range that appeals to me.

Mandarin Duck Yellow

22.5 x 22.5 x 0.1 cm

Watercolor on 300g. Hahnemühle paper

A version of a Mandarin duck pose that I particularly liked. In warmer yellow tones, and perhaps a little more traditional
